Just a theory I thought of. What if the intro to MK:A was partly canon, and that Shang Tsung almost reached the top of the pyramid, but Liu Kang was stopping him. So as Taven (probably) defeated Blaze, the power ran through Taven, Liu Kang and Shang Tsung. This makes Taven win the prize, of course, Shang Tsung become powerful enough to rule Outworld, and Liu Kang becomes human again, and can live for thousands of years (which helps his relationship with Kitana).
I hope they both live, I want Liu Kang alive more than Shang Tsung though.

Meh. Let's say that Shang Tsung was stopped by Liu Kang. This doesn't mean they'll still be there during Taven's battle with Blaze.
I'd rather Liu Kang move onto the Heavens so that there can be a bittersweet ending instead of a sugar-coated one. His time is over and he should really pass the torch to someone else, so to speak.
As for Shang Tsung, he's a cool villain, but I think it's better that he dies so that he won't be prone to becoming stale in the future, kind of like what happened to Scorpion.

They wouldn't of gotten any power, if you think about it.
They would've been the first two hit by the blast radius actually, and would either be the first 2 dead, or sapped of their powers. Which, in their cases (Liu being undead and Shang living on his power of consuming souls) would end up being the first two dead anyhow. =/
Them reappearing in MK8 in anything other than background information, which they have a slim chance of anyway, is slim to none.

I want Liu Kang alive too, He is a great part of the game, I know some people hate him because of his screaming, but thats no real reason to get rid of him, also Shujinko was great too

That would be interesting...but Taven might not win it all, so what would there be after that? Tsung and Blaze or Kang Blaze?

Liu Kang has to leave. The whole death of Liu in MKDA was really kool and he should leave MK universe for good. (time for Kung Lao to be the champion!)

Haha, sometimes me and KodeRed think alike. And this time, he took the words right out of my mouth.
I never really cared that much about Liu Kang, he is a bit of a bland character and the lame fire projectiles are annoying. Kung Lao on the other hand has one of the coolest looks out of any kombatants in the entire Mortal Kombat series. I love his character and how he's always calm about everything he does. His hat, special abilities, storyline, and everything are all great. He is an awesome character, and like said, its time for him to be the champion.
