It seems like everyone figured this out when the Phantom Pain trailer first came out <_< So this doesn't have much impact. What's happening with Ground Zeroes? That was also supposed to be a major MGS release, also open-world, also featuring Big Boss. And I honestly don't think Hayter not returning is a big deal. Big Boss was voiced by some other guy in MGS4 (but yes, I know he was voiced by Hayter in MGS3 and the PSP games, and yes he's an iconic voice actor who has been a major part of the series... but I don't think this is a big deal).
And one final thing, the gameplay video looked stupid <_<
edit: There's an interview with Kojima up on GT, and it looks like Ground Zeroes is a prologue to Phantom Pain, and while its still open-world it will be on a much smaller scale in comparison to PP. They are both pieces that make up MGS5. Also it looks like both are gonna be on current gen.

I'm sure they're planning ahead and this is the best opportunity to give Big Boss a new voice actor. David Hayter will voice Solid Snake (either if he appears in this game or in a remake of the first Metal Gear it will lead to) mark my words.
Actually it could go like this: We know Akio Otsuka (Snake's Japanese voice actor) voices Big Boss in the Ground Zeroes part of the game. Possibly Big Boss will have Hayter's/Otsuka's voice in Ground Zeroes then he falls into a coma for 9 years and when he wakes up and The Phantom Pain begins he has a new voice actor. |
