IGN have posted eight new videos of Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Among the videos are a selection of gameplay clips, as well as a preview of Konquest mode and a first look at the game's Motor Kombat mode in action.
Accompanying the videos is a progress report, in which little new information is given. What is revealed though is that the vast majority of characters will be selectable right from the get go, meaning players will have an enormous and overwhelming roster to choose from straight from the box.
| As the name implies, Armageddon will be the culmination of the franchise and the largest MK title to date, with a grand total of 62 playable characters taken from previous titles. One significant design change that had been made shortly after E3 was the decision to make almost all of the fighters available at the outset of the game. To this end, 58 characters will be initially selectable, which should allows fans a chance to set up their dream matches with their favourite characters while still holding onto the classic unlockable reward scheme that the franchise is known for. At first glance, it can feel somewhat overwhelming, particularly for players who know the MK universe well, because you are presented with a massive roster to choose from. However, Boon helped to point out the arrangement of the fighters on the select screen: male fighters are arranged across the top four rows of the select screen, while the female fighters take the two smaller rows beneath them. Bringing up the final two rows are the more "monstrous" characters of the series, so characters like Baraka and Drahmin share company with larger brutes and boss characters like Moloch and Goro. |

IGN have posted a brief interview with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, in which he discusses the upcoming Nintendo Wii port of Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Boon also comments on the system's Wii-mote input device, and how it will affect gameplay.
IGN Wii: In the past, you were quoted as saying the Wii-mote might not be a good fit for fighters. Do you still feel this is true?
Ed Boon: Actually, my comments in the past were referring to the Wii-mote and the traditional fighting formula/format that exists today. This format was designed for a controller with many (around 8) buttons. There will inherently be challenges to adapting it to a different control scheme. Imagine you designed a driving game using a steering wheel, gas and brake pedals as the inputs. Then someone comes along and asks you to change the control scheme to use a keyboard instead. A challenge? Yes. Changing an existing fighting game to use different controls is also going to introduce challenges. I think the best way to address this is to rethink the play mechanic to make the most out of the new control mechanism. |

As suggested in an official newsletter from Midway yesterday, the official Mortal Kombat Armageddon web site has finally launched. The site now asks for age verification to enter, and includes a release countdown and menu bar with many options. Fans also have the choice to pre-order their copy of Armageddon online.
The Game section includes many links, including Story, Features, Characters and Arenas. Unfortunately the sections of greatest interest (the final two) are incomplete.
The Gallery menu item contains both Screenshots and Concept Art. Many have already been released, but there are a few new additions to the collection.
The new Video section contains all of the previously seen trailers and character trading cards, as well as a new Kintaro trading card. In the clip, John Vogel and Ed Boon describe Kintaro as a larger and more nimble version of Goro; half Shokan, half tiger. Boon also states that his favourite move of Kintaro's is his Teleport Stomp, which he shares with Sheeva.
As an aside, the secret page has once again been updated to include four new placeholders, meaning that although the official site is up and running, we shouldn't count out further updates to this page as well.

Whether or not this action was taken due to the compatibility petition forged by a number of Mortal Kombat sites and their members is unknown, but at least it has now happened. Over the past few weeks Midway have been slowly releasing various renders and concept art from Mortal Kombat Armageddon via a secret page on the game's official web site.
Fans' expectations were distorted today as a photograph of a man screaming in front of video cameras filled in one of the site's ten placeholders. While Midway are keeping quiet on what this image represents, speculation suggests that it is a scene from the game's upcoming television commercial.
Only three spaces remain on the secret page, with more updates on the way. Special thanks to site contributor Sub-Saibot for the news lead. |

As expected, MKArmageddon.com has received a minor update. The site now sports a Flash-based clip, which promotes the text "Every fighter in a game of death...who will survive to see...ARMAGEDDON" ahead of a giant logo. Strangely, if you click on the Mortal Kombat dragon's eye it loads an image of a silver question mark over the same familiar red background.
In other news, Cinder of the Midway forums has posted a revised screenshot of the Mortal Kombat Armageddon Character Select Screen. Changes include two Kreate-A-Fighter icons, the inclusion of Chameleon, and locks in place of Daegon, Taven, Meat and Blaze.

There has been somewhat of a mystery surrounding Mortal Kombat Armageddon's official website lately, which has caused quite a stir of excitement amongst the Mortal Kombat kommunity. Within the past week or so fans have seen a link to an ambient MP3 file, a strange sequence of numbers (7, ?, 1, 0 and 6), and a number of spaces which have been depleting one by one each day.
In addition, the red Mortal Kombat logo image has now darkened substantially in comparison to its predecessor (see above). All of these clues put together hint that we can expect some kind of important update on the 31st July (US time), and we hope it's good.
Stay tuned to Kamidogu as we bring you further updates, and thanks to everyone who sent in news leads. |

The Official US Xbox Magazine has revealed that the long anticipated secret mode in Mortal Kombat Armageddon will be a karting game named Motor Kombat. Taking control of large-headed characters similar to those seen in Mortal Kombat Deception's Puzzle Kombat mode, players will race with their favourite kombatants, using their individual signature moves to gain the upper hand. Also said to be included is a four-player split screen option, and an eight-player online alternative. Playable characters include Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jax, Raiden, Bo' Rai Cho, Kitana, Baraka, Johnny Cage, Mileena and Cyrax.
The rotating character select screen has also been redesigned to mirror a more classic arrangement. Visible in the picture are everyone's favourites, including Motaro and two unknown faces, speculated to be Daegon and perhaps Meat or another new character.
Subscribers of the magazine should receive their copy of the August issue in the next few days; others will have to wait until August 1 to grab a copy. Special thanks to forum member liu_kangx for the cover and page thumbnails. |

The official Mortal Kombat Armageddon web site has today received a minor update, sporting a new graphic in place of the E3 advertisement which had been present on the site since early May.
Also of note are the links to the game's E3 trailer and arena artworks, which have vanished from the site. In their place is a small image that links to a lava sound effect, hinting that perhaps more updates are on their way. Special thanks to forum member Fenix for the news.
UPDATE: A few users have noticed that if you highlight the entire site, the characters 7, ?, 1, 0 and 6 are stacked vertically. Could this be a clue to the date of a new update? Guess we'll have to wait and see. |

Kamidogu has joined with fellow Mortal Kombat sites Mortal Kombat Online, TRMK, Dave's Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Outworld and Total Mortal Kombat in an attempt to provide Xbox 360 backwards compatibility with the Mortal Kombat titles that were released on the original Xbox console.
Differing from PlayStation consoles, Microsoft decided to make backwards compatibility software based, meaning only certain games with downloadable patches could be played properly on the Xbox 360. While Mortal Kombat Deception was originally one of the first games to receive such a patch, it was soon pulled from the list and deemed too glitchy. Since then there has been no sign of it, nor its comrades Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
Members of the Mortal Kombat kommunity have expressed their desire to play previous Mortal Kombat games on Microsoft's new console, as well as the upcoming Mortal Kombat Armageddon. By joining forces, it is our hope that this petition will make the greater Mortal Kombat kommunity's voice heard, and that the backwards compatibility list will be soon updated to include our favourite games.
We would like to thank Mortal Kombat Online for organising the petition, and without further ado, would like to encourage you to sign it by clicking here. |

Bryan Dawson of GameDaily recently had the opportunity to sit down and discuss Mortal Kombat Armageddon with Ed Boon. While describing Armageddon in relation to its prequels (as well as competing titles such as Tekken and Dead or Alive), Boon makes mention of the next Mortal Kombat game which will appear on next generation consoles, currently titled Mortal Kombat 8.
| At this time I figured I should ask the one thing I've wanted to know since Armageddon was announced. I asked Boon when Mortal Kombat would be making its way to next generation consoles. With a smile Boon told me that the next Mortal Kombat (MK8 for now) will be on next generation consoles and they've already started work on it. It almost certainly won't be hitting next year, but it should be arriving sometime in 2008. In addition, the game will not use the same engine as Armageddon and the past few MK titles, so we'll be getting an all new Mortal Kombat. |

Game Informer magazine have recently posted an interview they had with Ed Boon as the E3 2006 convention drew to a close.
In the interview, Boon describes his thrill over having every character return in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and the new Kreate-A-Fighter mode which has seen not only a display of the imagination of fans in their own unique creations, but also a myriad of characters imitated from such games as Tekken and Street Fighter.
The interview later moves to the next generation of systems, where Boon speaks about Mortal Kombat and the potential titles that could be seen in the years to come on the Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii. He also mentions that the first Mortal Kombat title on next-gen systems will most likely be a classic arcade style fighting game, but alludes to a possible sequel to the popular Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks adventure game, released in 2005.

Due to popular demand, Kamidogu now houses a Finisher Theatre, which will eventually hold video clips of every finishing move from the Mortal Kombat saga.

All Fatality and Hara-Kiri clips are available for download exclusively to members of Kamidogu via the Finisher Theatre section. |

After sporting the same look since December of 2005, our staff would like to introduce a new and vastly optimised version of Kamidogu. Borrowing heavily from its predecessor, Version 2 still retains a similar look and feel, but greatly improves in a number of key areas.
The site has had an uplift in appearance, which improves viewability and functionality. Kamidogu is now wider, allowing for easier viewing of content and along with the removal of the hanging banner, gives the site a much less cramped feeling. The Kamidogu logo has also had a minor change, with its O having been replaced with a Mortal Kombat logo. We felt as if the logo on its own was lacking a Mortal Kombat feel, and believe this small adjustment has fixed this issue without compromising its familiarity.
Aside from cosmetic changes, Kamidogu has had a complete overhaul on the side of coding. The site has been heavily optimised in the background, meaning raw code should load a lot faster.
The site's navigation menus have remained almost unchanged, with only a few slight adjustments. The most obvious inclusion is the introduction of a new Site menu, which houses the Links and Contact options present in the menu of Version 1, as well as a few other tidbits. Links for future sections have also been added, such as that of the Finisher Theatre, which will be released at a later date.
As with anything new there are bound to be a few bugs around the place. If any are encountered, we would greatly appreciate if they are reported to us as soon as possible.
We hope you enjoy Version 2 of Kamidogu, and look forward to hearing your thoughts and comments. |

While the Internet is a vast source of Mortal Kombat information, not many sites fully encompass everything that is Mortal Kombat. Our ultimate aim at Kamidogu is to push the ball past the norm and do the unexpected.
In saying that, we would like to introduce our new Reference section, which is essentially an A-Z Mortal Kombat encyclopaedia. While it is not complete, it is our hope that with the help of the Mortal Kombat kommunity it can be regularly updated and made to be the Internet's premier Mortal Kombat information resource. |

As the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles drew to a close, GameTrailers caught up with Mortal Kombat Armageddon creative director Ed Boon.
In the video interview, Boon gives a brief overview of the game's main modes and features while some new gameplay footage is shown. He also mentions that his team isn't afraid to take an unexpected path and redefine each Mortal Kombat game; he believes this is the main reason why it has been able to maintain its popularity for so many years.

In an exclusive On The Spot interview, GameSpot have interviewed Mortal Kombat Armageddon developers Ed Boon and Paulo Garcia.
During the interview, Boon describes a huge event that will take place on top of a giant pyramid, which will ultimately determine the fate of all of the characters. In saying that, he also mentions that this event will revolve around Blaze, who will feature as the game's main boss.
The movie interview goes on to show the character selection screen, with its giant revolving rectangular prism. Loading screens have also been revamped as lush versus screens.
A myriad of gameplay footage is shown, where arenas such as the Battle Arena and Wasteland sport multiple and differing deathtraps. For example, the catapults in the Wasteland arena hurl a kombatant hundreds of metres before a grotesque crack is heard as they hit a cement wall and slide down.
An example of a custom fatality is shown, where the timing system is displayed. Fatalities are graded, based on how many moves players can generate in the limited time given (such as Brutal Fatality, Vicious Fatality, etc.) and players will earn currency for doing so.
Konquest mode looks to be shaping up as a fantastic action/adventure mode. The opening sequence shows the mother and father of Taven and Daegon, who tell of two dragons, Orin and Caro, who will accompany their sons on their quest to find an ancient weapon and use it to defeat Blaze. Starting in the Botan Jungle, players will traverse through a dense forest, smashing logs and other obstacles in their way. Even small events such as stepping on a spider will reveal secret chests.
To view the video interview in its entirety, please follow this link.

GameSpot recently had the opportunity of getting an early look at this year's E3 demo of Mortal Kombat Armageddon. The demo shows off the game's three key elements, being the regular Kombat mode, Create-A-Fighter mode and newly redesigned Konquest mode.
The demo's Kombat mode allows players to select from Shinnok, Sheeva, Kintaro, Stryker, Sektor, Rain, Scorpion, Goro, Jarek, Kai, Sareena, Fujin and Sub-Zero, giving fans a great deal of new characters to try. Characters who have been absent from the series for a while, such as Sheeva and Stryker, have had their redesigns described as 'more than just cosmetic', meaning fans can expect a few surprises in the moves department come October.
The article goes on to describe the classic arenas making a return in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, which seem to be undergoing drastic makeovers. After Mortal Kombat Armageddon's lead character artist Steve Beran revealed to Kamidogu that the Wasteland from Mortal Kombat 2 would be making a return with a 'cool new deathtrap', it has now been discovered that it will be some kind of catapult.
Perhaps the most significant news of all comes from Konquest mode, where Taven seems to be the name of the character previously codenamed 'Bob'. The article also alludes to Blaze having a significant role.
| The last element of the demo showed off the konquest mode, which is being tweaked in response to user feedback on Deadly Alliance. This time out, the story focuses on two brothers, Taven and Daegon, who wind up in a bit of Survivor-style sibling rivalry. It seems their father is trying to decide who to crown as his successor. The old man's method? A contest between the two brothers that sends them adventuring through Earth Realm in search of an ancient weapon that they'll need to use to defeat an elemental named Blaze, last seen in Mortal Kombat: Deception. Whoever manages to do that first will be crowned the new defender of Edenia and be given a powerful gift. Not the coolest thing for a parent to do, to be sure, but it does make for a good setup for Konquest mode, which now features a sense of urgency. You'll play through the mode as Taven and attempt to race through the challenges laid out before you so you can beat your brother. |
GameSpot have also posted a number of new screenshots to coincide with the release of the article. The article can be read here, and the screenshots can be found here.
In addition to the screenshots and article, GameSpot have posted a video interview, which contains a myriad of never-before-seen footage. Included is a first look at Sektor, Reiko, Shao Kahn and Sareena in kombat, as well as a deeper insight into the Create-A-Fighter mode, clearly showing that it is in fact possible to create characters of different species from the Mortal Kombat universe.
The video is available for download now via Kamidogu's Mortal Kombat Armageddon Media & Information page. |

Two forum members over at Mortal Kombat Online have discovered a hidden Survival mode in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. It allows players to battle against multiple bosses and enemies simultaneously.

To access Survival mode, you will first need to collect the Axe from the room with the water pipes in the background. After doing so, leave the room and backtrack to the main save room at the beginning of the Foundry. Head down the hallway, and enter the small doorway you created earlier. Step into the lava until you are burnt, then leave the room and backtrack down the hallway to the save statue.
Enter the cave to your right, and use the Power Attack button to smash the barrel at the end. Once it has been destroyed, leave the cave and head up the ramp to your left. At the top, head left and smash the barrel closest to you. Next, follow the balcony around to your right until you reach a small alcove. Smash the barrel to your right, then head left again and down the hallway with the crushing mallets. Destroy the barrel at the end of the hallway with your Axe, then return to the small alcove and smash the remaining barrel. Finally, follow the balcony back around to your left and smash the barrel. Use your Power Attack once on the ground to raise a green aura. Enter it, then press the Activate button to begin Survival mode.
To make things a little easier, Kamidogu has created a detailed video showing exactly how to achieve the above task. It is available right now in QuickTime format here. |

US gaming magazine Game Informer (who exclusively revealed Mortal Kombat Armageddon to the world earlier this year) have posted an interview with Mortal Kombat Armageddon's project leader, Ed Boon.
In the interview, Boon describes the challenges of reintroducing characters never before seen in the 3D world, and expands on the Kreate A Fighter mode.
GI: When you are creating a character, will you have a set number of attribute points or something that you spend?
Boon: Yes, when you start off, you won't have the ability to pick every single attack to assign on to your character. Everything that you do in the game we are trying to consolidate into one monetary system. So when you are playing the fighting game, you will be earning the same type of points as you would playing the Konquest Mode or any of the other modes in the game. With that currency, you can go back and purchase different kinds of moves and special attacks and keep building your character visually and skilfully.
GI: So the more you play, the more beefy you can make your fighter?
Boon: Exactly. |
The interview stems off onto the development of Mortal Kombat Unchained, where Boon reveals that a company named Climax is developing the title.
GI: I know you're a fan of the PSP and now you have Unchained coming out. What was it like working with that hardware?
Boon: Well Unchained was developed in Santa Monica by a company called Climax. So we didn't develop the game here in Chicago but there were a lot of issues that we wanted to address. We really wanted to keep the framerate very high. So we went in there and helped them optimize their code and the Wi-Fi linking - we really wanted to make sure that was tight. We did have a lot more exposure to the hardware than we normally would have when working with a third party, but the main work was done by Climax. |

IGN recently had the opportunity of interviewing Mortal Kombat Armageddon producer John Podlasek.
During the four and a half minute interview, Podlasek describes Mortal Kombat Armageddon's fighting system which will comprise two fighting styles per character. While most characters will receive one hand-to-hand style and a weapon style, Podlasek hints at the possibility of some characters having two weapon styles or two hand-to-hand styles in an attempt to accurately depict that particular character's technique.
Podlasek also touches on the new Konquest mode, Kreate-A-Fighter mode, custom fatalities and online play during the latter part of the interview.

Midway have issued an official press release for Mortal Kombat Armageddon, reiterating details published in Game Informer magazine and confirming the target release date of Fall 2006.
Steve Allison, chief marketing officer at Midway, had the following to say:
| "As the final chapter of Mortal Kombat on current generation gaming platforms, we're eager to raise the bar for the fighting genre yet again with Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Building off of the tremendous successes of Mortal Kombat: Deception in October 2004 and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks in September 2005, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon introduces the most comprehensive cast of playable characters from every Mortal Kombat title, both past and present, in addition to the first create-a-fighter mode in franchise history." |

IGN have posted the first batch of media on their site since Game Informer magazine spilled the beans on Mortal Kombat Armageddon back in January. Included in this release are 12 screenshots, renders of Reiko and Kintaro, and a trailer giving fans a taste of what to expect come Fall.

Through their exclusive interview with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, it has been revealed that Motaro will be present in Mortal Kombat Armageddon. From the interview:
IGN: Also, from a technical standpoint, are there any complications or difficulties you had to overcome to get all of these characters to fight one another? Do different character sizes or fighting styles make a difference from a design or programming standpoint?
Ed: Absolutely. We are going to be including all the boss characters from MK's past. Goro, Shao Kahn, even Motaro!! Some of these characters are HUGE and have never been playable characters before. So we will need to make sure they are not too powerful or un-fun to play. We are doing extensive testing on them against every single other character in the game to make sure they are fair and fun to play. |
Mortal Kombat Armageddon is set for release on PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles Fall 2006. |

David Craddock of Shacknews recently had the opportunity of speaking with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon about the next instalment to the Mortal Kombat series. In his preview, he briefly touches on the history of Mortal Kombat and provides a further insight into the details released in this month's issue of Game Informer magazine.
| Because MK:A will focus on wrapping up these storylines—in short, seeing who should stick around for the next wave of MK games, and who should be given the ax—you can expect to see a few characters you haven't seen in a while. And by a few, I mean ALL of them. Characters like Stryker, Sheeva, Sektor, Motaro, Kintaro, and Shao Kahn that haven't been seen since the days of MK3 or MK: Gold will return, as will all others. Mortal Kombat 1 through Deception is represented here, and there will be a few new faces as well. This, combined with a feature that I will reveal shortly, will make for a 60+ cast of characters. |
Interestingly the article hints at Motaro making an appearance in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, contrary to previous rumours that he would not make the final cut.
GameDaily has also posted its own in-depth preview of Mortal Kombat Armageddon; the author Bryan Dawson providing his opinion in contrast to past incarnations.

US gaming magazine Game Informer has published an exclusive 6-page preview of Midway's upcoming Mortal Kombat game, tipped for release on PlayStation 2 and Xbox systems in October of this year.

Today sees the grand opening of Kamidogu — a Mortal Kombat fan site that will hopefully become your ultimate source for all things Mortal Kombat.
Let me start by welcoming you all. Fans are what make a site great, and without them a site is only ever half complete. I would especially like to thank all those who joined Kamidogu Forums before the site launched. Your enthusiasm and energy has been large factor in my motivation to continue.
I have been a long time fan of the Mortal Kombat series, growing up with the franchise. Starting at a young age with the original Mortal Kombat game in 1992, my interest in Mortal Kombat has only grown. In mid-2005 I decided to purchase a domain name and commit myself to offering Mortal Kombat fans what they need and deserve.

In saying that, I would like to introduce you to the Mortal Kombat Deception section of Kamidogu. Below is a summary of what you can now access:
- A full transcript of the intro movie, describing Mortal Kombat Deception's main storyline. The intro movie is also available for download as a QuickTime movie, encoded in the high-quality H.264 format.

- High-quality images of all of the fighting arenas.

- A page on every kombatant, including full move lists, finishing moves and character biographies. View all kombatants' endings as images and text or as high-quality QuickTime movies encoded in H.264.

- A first of its kind 13-part Konquest guide, covering every side mission, every fighting challenge and every krypt key location with almost 200 screenshots. Includes high-quality maps of all of the realms, with optional gridlines and detail clearly marking the location of all krypt keys and koin chests.

- Discover the contents of every koffin and what amount of currency is required to open them using the Krypt guide. Also contains the locations of all krypt keys needed to open locked koffins.
Although it may not seem like much, countless hours have been spent constructing Kamidogu into a format suitable for all. Over the coming months much more content will be added, with a complete Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks section planned next.
I would like to thank forum moderators Fuzz and Scorpion, who helped with the quality control of this site, and of course their help in the moderation of the forums. Also included in my thanks is Dave Rosteck of Dave's Mortal Kombat who supplied the video track for both Goro and Shao Kahn's endings after things didn't go to plan on my end.
In closing, I'd like to say welcome to Kamidogu and hope you find it useful both now and in the future. I look forward to providing you the best that Mortal Kombat has to offer. |
