As reported earlier by our friends over at TRMK, news had recently surfaced that EA Mobile were working on an iOS port of the highly popular arcade classic Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

The game is now available worldwide in your local iTunes App Store for both iPhone and iPod touch. Priced at $6.99 USD/$8.99 AUD, the port has thus far received pretty average reviews.

The biggest shock came at the announcement that the original game’s assets would be replaced by lowly-detailed and often disproportionate 3D models, and that the game would only hold a portion of its original roster. What is most puzzling however are the character choices made, as a number of key kombatants such as Shang Tsung and Kung Lao are missing from the port all together.

Kombatants present include Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kitana, Nightwolf, Jax, Sheeva, Sonya, Liu Kang, Stryker, Ermac and Jade. Other characters such as Motaro and Shao Kahn also make an appearance, however it is unknown at this time if they are actually playable.

We are yet to give this app a go, but we will be posting our thoughts in a video review sometime in the future. Don’t forget to also check out our very own Kamidogu iOS app while trawling the store!
