Megan Fox Revealed as the Face and Voice of Nitara

After a screenshot of the roster selection screen that showed Nitara’s facial redesign, NetherRealm Studios went ahead and officially revealed the Vampire Queen, played by none other than Megan Fox!

Today, the 3D Era scores one more point! Nitara recently appeared in live-action and animated films, but this is her first playable appearance since Mortal Kombat Armageddon. As one of the most requested characters to come back, fans are celebrating her amazing redesign and gameplay.

As expected, Nitara has some insane-looking aerial combos. She also boasts aerial cancels to extend her combos, deceive the opponent, and move around the battlefield in a very dynamic fashion. A true vampire, Nitara uses her teeth in at least one attack, which grants her a boost. She can activate a second boost that doesn’t require her to bite the opponent. Watching the trailer, it looks like a damage boost, but we’ll have to wait and see!

Lore-wise, we got a confirmation that I find extremely exciting: Datusha is back! For those who aren’t well-versed in this side of the lore, Datusha is the Kriss’ real name, the sword Ashrah wields. Ashrah believes the Datusha is a holy weapon, but in fact, it’s a bloodthirsty weapon forged in Vaeternus (the realm of the vampires) whose sole goal is to kill. And it accomplishes that by manipulating its wielder into believing they’re killing for the greater good, which is why Ashrah believes she’s being purified.

Because it was created in Vaeternus, the Datusha’s favourite meal is… vampires! Thus, we got back yet another rivalry: Ashrah versus Nitara. We never truly saw them fighting in the 3D era, which makes this reunion even more exciting! And considering how Mortal Kombat 1 is turning old rivalries on their heads, I hope that, by the end of the game, Ashrah will realise her mistake and befriend Nitara!

All this information on the Datusha is based on the Original Timeline’s lore. Judging by Nitara’s reaction to the Datusha, however, it’s safe to assume NRS preserved this narrative!
