Announced at The Game Awards in 2018, Mortal Kombat 11 took the series’ realism and gore to all-new heights.
Building on the success of its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11 introduced vastly improved graphics through a heavily updated Unreal Engine 3, employing facial scanning to give kombatants a level of never-before-seen detail. X-ray moves made famous in Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X were removed in favour of Fatal Blows. Other new mechanics include the replacing of the Breaker system with a new Breakaway move, as well as Krushing Blows which deal devastating and visually satisfying extra damage when executed under the right conditions.
In 2020 NetherRealm Studios released an expansion for the game titled Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, adding new kombatants, arenas, Stage Fatalities and Friendships. It was also the first time in the series’ history that a story mode had been expanded upon.
