Foregoing what has become their usual pre-release schedule, NetherRealm Studios chose not to announce any upcoming projects at E3, namely Mortal Kombat 11. Excitement hit fever pitch as the convention drew closer, spurred on by numerous leaks and rumours including a doubtful reveal at Combo Breaker 2018. The past few days have seen fans ignite social media with conjecture and anticipation; it wasn’t until day two rolled around that things became clearer. Speaking to Giant Bomb host Jeff Gerstmann amongst panelists Jacob Mikkelson and Sven Liebold of IO Interactive, Dan Ryckert of Giant Bomb and Eric Pope of Ubisoft, NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon did little to avoid…

Originally depicted as an American-Japanese warrior in the original Mortal Kombat, Kano was later retconned as a brutal and unforgiving Australian fighter with little regard for others. A member of the Black Dragon clan, his signature moves include a cannonball, throwing knives and a devastatingly savage eye laser. Oh, and who can forget his signature Heart Rip Fatality? But could Kano have really fathered a son as is depicted in his Mortal Kombat X ending? Mortal Kombat kommunity veteran tabmok99 delved into this subject in a recent video to gauge its plausibility. While the series is known for its wild and outlandish endings, there is…

Following the release of Mortal Kombat II in the mid-nineties, a multi-arc comic line was released by Malibu comics. While much of their storylines played out like an extension of the games’ stories, the writers were given freedoms to develop their own characters and tangents. In his latest video, tabmok99 takes an in-depth look at the series which featured many preemptions that came true in titles some years later. The comics also gave readers their first look at characters only previously mentioned by name, such as King Jerrod of Edenia. Have you ever wondered what Mortal Kombat II would look like as a 3D title? YouTuber Bitplex has paid homage to his favourite title in the series by taking this question and making it a reality. Rather than creating high-quality renders of the game’s arenas and kombatants or using modern techniques such as motion capture (a la the cancelled Mortal Kombat HD Arcade Kollection), Bitplex has modelled the game’s original sprites and textures onto 3D models.
Highly esteemed and longtime Mortal Kombat kommunity member tabmok99 recently posted a video to his YouTube channel detailing one of the greatest mysteries in the franchise: the elusive male ninja Chameleon. First appearing in Mortal Kombat Trilogy as a fusion of the game’s multiple palette-swapped ninjas, Chameleon later returned in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon as a fully-fledged kombatant. Despite having an ending, it didn’t do much to quell the shroud of mystery surrounding him… Justin is an asset to the kommunity and regularly posts many interesting in-depth videos covering a variety of Mortal Kombat topics. Hot on the heels of their surprise reveal back in November comes our first proper look at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in their very own gameplay trailer. Their inclusion caps off an incredible three seasons of DLC for Injustice 2, bringing the total roster of playable characters to a whopping 41. Each turtle brings with them their own unique dialogue, animations and attitude, with players able to take control of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael or Michelangelo by choice. The foursome share only anatomy, with each playing completely differently due to their differing fight styles and weapons.
NetherRealm Studios continues its strong line-up of Injustice 2 DLC with the addition of Enchantress as part of Fighter Pack 3. Her inclusion follows Atom who was introduced in late 2017. The all-too ordinary life of June Moone ended the day she was possessed by the Enchantress, a demonic sorceress with aspirations of world domination. Today, she fights for her very soul, struggling to harness the Enchantress’ magic for good. If she fails, the Enchantress will consume her — and our world won’t be far behind.
Hellboy will become the third and final character to be added to the roster in Injustice 2 as part of Fighter Pack 2 come November 14. His inclusion follows last month’s introduction of Mortal Kombat’s popular thunder god Raiden, as well as Black Manta back in September. Created by writer-artist Mike Mignola, Hellboy first made his appearance in August 1993 in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2. He has since made numerous guest appearances in varying forms of media, and starred in two live-action feature films in 2004 and 2008 starring Ron Perlman. A half-demon who true name is Anung Un Rama, Hellboy…
