Following recent news that NetherRealm Studios has ended its development of Mortal Kombat 1, WBIE has today announced Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection.
Developed by Digital Eclipse, a retro gaming studio solely focused on the restoration of classic video game titles, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will gratify fans who enjoyed the franchise’s early beginnings.
Unlike Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection which was released in 2011, Legacy Kollection will provide multiple versions of each title, including (where applicable) their original arcade release, as well as numerous console and handheld ports. While more titles are yet to be announced, the current list includes:
- Mortal Kombat – 1992 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
- Mortal Kombat II – 1993 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, 32X)
- Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995 (Arcade, SNES, Genesis)
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – 1995 (Arcade, SNES)
- Mortal Kombat 4 – 1997 (Arcade)
- Mortal Kombat Advance – 2001 (Game Boy Advance)
- Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance – 2002 (Game Boy Advance)
- Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition – 2003 (Game Boy Advance)
Games aside, Legacy Kollection will also include an interactive documentary chronicling the series’ groundbreaking history, featuring rare concept art and archival video footage. Furthermore, it will include new and vintage interviews with original creators Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden and John Vogel, along with dozens more.

As many would already know, we have been hard at work migrating our one-of-a-kind game guides across to our new site platform. As part of this process, we have been taking our time with each title to update graphics, add additional information and really flesh everything out. As fate would have it, we have added a plethora of new content to retro titles in recent weeks, including a lot of platform specific information, cementing Kamidogu as your go-to source for this kollection. A huge shoutout to staffer Travis for his hard work around this.
Penned for release sometime this year, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
