Seventeen years after her last appearance, Ashrah is finally back in a Mortal Kombat story. Was the wait worth it? The short answer to the question above is: not really. There are many arguments to be made regarding the return of the 3D-era characters, and believe me, I know most of those characters had a worse fate, lore-wise. But Ashrah is my favourite, the lady of my heart! So, I had to write this to analyse, for myself and others who might be interested, her participation in the story of Mortal Kombat 1. It’s another glorious day for Mortal Kombat fans, with a number of popular additions unveiled at Gamescom 2023. Presenter Geoff Keighley was joined on-stage by Ed Boon on opening night to introduce a brand new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer, titled “Rulers of Outworld.” Described by Boon as their craziest trailer of all, it opens to a chariot being pulled along during a street celebration honouring the memory of Sindel’s late husband King Jerrod. Mortal Kombat 1 is closely approaching, and it’s looking to be the most mechanically sophisticated MK game to date. For countless players, this installment is going to be their diving point into competitive fighting games. While the artwork has since been removed from all product listings, it is plastered all over social media and reveals a yet-to-be-announced single player mode called “Invasions” (if Google Translate is to be believed). Those looking for a separate single-player experience will no doubt be among the first to delve into the new mode, which seemingly allows players to traverse multiple realms and face off against seasonal threats.
