TOASTY! The man behind Mortal Kombat’s most iconic music tracks has announced his retirement from the team after more than three decades. Its unique digitised graphics and gruesome finishing moves aside, a huge part of Mortal Kombat’s appeal came from its catchy soundtrack and crispy sound effects. Game after game he continued to perfect his craft, and although others eventually joined the sound development team his influence remained front and centre. Wednesday was…

As largely expected, Digital Eclipse and Atari have used Evo 2025 to jointly announce the inclusion of Mortal Kombat Trilogy in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Released in 1996, Mortal Kombat Trilogy quickly became a fan favourite, bringing together an enormous roster of kombatants and arenas. Although it was also released for Nintendo 64, it was the PlayStation and PC ports that really resonated with fans as they contained crisper graphics and additional characters. In fact, it is the PlayStation port specifically that will be included with this kollection. While the digital version of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is expected in…

Earlier this morning it appears that the next Mortal Kombat Legends film from Warner Animation is on the way via leak. Entitled “Mortal Kombat Legends: Snowblind”, the rumored movie is slated for an October 27, 2022 release date which is right around the 30th anniversary of the franchise. It is all speculation at this point. But if artwork and title holds true, it appears that the third entry in the Mortal Kombat Legends Series is a story centered around Kenshi and Kuai Liang Sub-Zero. This would be a rare case in Mortal Kombat media where we have a story beyond…
Recently, never before seen footage of an early version of Mortal Kombat II has been released on YouTube and it is fascinating. It is Version 0.1, which was never released to the public or playable for its release. Credit to theonblastshow2012 for unearthing the footage and YouTube Channel YourMKArcadeSource for releasing it. Keep in mind, it is old footage and it is clearly VHS quality. But when you watch this footage, the gameplay, sound, music, and presentation is completely different from the Mortal Kombat II arcade version we are all used to. Some stand out notes: Johnny Cage’s sprite has…
Following the success of last year’s Mortal Kombat movie reboot it comes as no surprise that work is currently underway on a sequel. Deadline is reporting that Australian director Simon McQuoid is set to reprise his role as director for the film tentatively titled “Mortal Kombat 2”, following his theatrical directional debut in the first film. Jeremy Slater (best known for his work on The Exorcist TV series and Disney+ miniseries Moon Knight) joins as a writer. Amid the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic Australia was sought out as an ideal location to film the first movie. Its cast and…
Measuring 30″ (76cm) tall and 14″ (35.5cm) wide, PCS’ upcoming klassic Jade statue is nothing short of breathtaking. Standing atop a pedestal base inspired by the Dead Pool arena, Jade holds her signature “Imperial Jubilee” bo staff in her right hand and “Shao Kahn’s Bane” razor-rang in her left. Retailing for $1500 USD, Jade’s highly-detailed model features her in her Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 attire and comes with both masked and unmasked variants. Pre-orders are not yet live, but the company anticipates a ship date of April-June 2023, with 400 units to be made in total. Plans are also in…
Jeremy Slater is the new screenwriter for the second movie in the reboot movie series. That name might sound familiar as he also worked on the Disney+ Marvel series Moon Knight. In a recent interview with Discussing Film he acknowledged that the studio is aware of the issues the fans had with the first film, as well as the things we loved, and steering to correct and improve on the next film. Will they be able to make us forget about Cole Young? Probably not. BUT that is not to say we can’t forgive. So long as we actually get…
Andrew Bowen, aka the voice of Johnny Cage, recently tweeted and then quickly deleted a video that could potentially mean Mortal Kombat 12 is coming next from NetherRealm Studios. The video reportedly showed Bowen arriving at WB Studios in California, presumably to do some vocal work for the company. During the course of the video, some music from Mortal Kombat II could be heard faintly in the background, again leading those who saw the video to think that he was indeed visiting WB Studios to work on Mortal Kombat 12. There is no confirmation as to what work Andrew Bowen…
Actor Casper Van Dien, who played Johnny Cage in the second season of the digital Mortal Kombat: Legacy series, released some behind-the-scenes pictures from the unreleased third season to his Instagram today, August 1. While this would have been the third digital season of content released, at the time there were conflicting reports as to exactly what this content would be. Some reports had this as a direct continuation of Kevin Tancharoen’s “Legacy” series, even after Tancharoen departed the project. Some images even made their way online, revealing the cover of the script saying “Mortal Kombat 3.” This is the…
