The second trailer for 2026’s Mortal Kombat II movie has dropped, and is sure to whet more than a few appetites. Once again, protagonist Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) is front and centre, seemingly thrust into a world he doesn’t quite understand. While numerous fan theories currently exist, many believe the film’s first half will focus on the film star while the latter half will focus more on the rise of Kitana and Earthrealm’s warriors against the evil emperor Shao Kahn. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. What do you think of this latest trailer? Be sure to keep an…
TOASTY! The man behind Mortal Kombat’s most iconic music tracks has announced his retirement from the team after more than three decades. Dan Forden served as one of the original four team members who created the original Mortal Kombat in 1992 alongside Ed Boon, John Tobias and John Vogel. Its unique digitised graphics and gruesome finishing moves aside, a huge part of Mortal Kombat’s appeal came from its catchy soundtrack and crispy sound effects. Game after game he continued to perfect his craft, and although others eventually joined the sound development team his influence remained front and centre. Wednesday was…

As largely expected, Digital Eclipse and Atari have used Evo 2025 to jointly announce the inclusion of Mortal Kombat Trilogy in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Released in 1996, Mortal Kombat Trilogy quickly became a fan favourite, bringing together an enormous roster of kombatants and arenas. Although it was also released for Nintendo 64, it was the PlayStation and PC ports that really resonated with fans as they contained crisper graphics and additional characters. In fact, it is the PlayStation port specifically that will be included with this kollection. While the digital version of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is expected in…

Actor Casper Van Dien, who played Johnny Cage in the second season of the digital Mortal Kombat: Legacy series, released some behind-the-scenes pictures from the unreleased third season to his Instagram today, August 1. While this would have been the third digital season of content released, at the time there were conflicting reports as to exactly what this content would be. Some reports had this as a direct continuation of Kevin Tancharoen’s “Legacy” series, even after Tancharoen departed the project. Some images even made their way online, revealing the cover of the script saying “Mortal Kombat 3.” This is the…
Earlier this morning it appears that the next Mortal Kombat Legends film from Warner Animation is on the way via leak. Entitled “Mortal Kombat Legends: Snowblind”, the rumored movie is slated for an October 27, 2022 release date which is right around the 30th anniversary of the franchise. It is all speculation at this point. But if artwork and title holds true, it appears that the third entry in the Mortal Kombat Legends Series is a story centered around Kenshi and Kuai Liang Sub-Zero. This would be a rare case in Mortal Kombat media where we have a story beyond…
Recently, never before seen footage of an early version of Mortal Kombat II has been released on YouTube and it is fascinating. It is Version 0.1, which was never released to the public or playable for its release. Credit to theonblastshow2012 for unearthing the footage and YouTube Channel YourMKArcadeSource for releasing it. Keep in mind, it is old footage and it is clearly VHS quality. But when you watch this footage, the gameplay, sound, music, and presentation is completely different from the Mortal Kombat II arcade version we are all used to. Some stand out notes: Johnny Cage’s sprite has…
Following the success of last year’s Mortal Kombat movie reboot it comes as no surprise that work is currently underway on a sequel. Deadline is reporting that Australian director Simon McQuoid is set to reprise his role as director for the film tentatively titled “Mortal Kombat 2”, following his theatrical directional debut in the first film. Jeremy Slater (best known for his work on The Exorcist TV series and Disney+ miniseries Moon Knight) joins as a writer. Amid the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic Australia was sought out as an ideal location to film the first movie. Its cast and…

Jeremy Slater is the new screenwriter for the second movie in the reboot movie series. That name might sound familiar as he also worked on the Disney+ Marvel series Moon Knight. In a recent interview with Discussing Film he acknowledged that the studio is aware of the issues the fans had with the first film, as well as the things we loved, and steering to correct and improve on the next film. Will they be able to make us forget about Cole Young? Probably not. BUT that is not to say we can’t forgive. So long as we actually get…
Ed Boon took to Twitter today to squash rumors of a Mortal Kombat 12 reveal at this year’s EVO tournament, saying “Its (sic) time for Street Fighter and other great fighting games to be in the sun!” The denial comes after rumors sprouted up around a news article from IGN saying that many popular developers, including Warner Bros., would have “big announcements” at this year’s tournament. While Mortal Kombat and other WB released games will be present during the event, which happens on August 5th through the 7th, it seems more likely that the announcement will be around MultiVersus rather…
