With the theatrical release of Mortal Kombat II less than two weeks away, Christopher, Toasty and Kung Lew share their hopes, their fears and their final thoughts ahead of its premiere.
Toasty and McCage provide an in-depth analysis and review episodes 3 and 4 of 1998’s Mortal Kombat: Conquest television series, titled Cold Reality and Immortal Kombat respectively.
Toasty is joined by McCage and Kung Lew to breakdown the second trailer for Mortal Kombat II, which premieres worldwide on 8th May 2026.
The second trailer for 2026’s Mortal Kombat II movie has dropped, and is sure to whet more than a few appetites. Once again, protagonist Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) is front and centre, seemingly thrust into a world he doesn’t quite understand. While numerous fan theories currently exist, many believe the film’s first half will focus on the film star while the latter half will focus more on the rise of Kitana and Earthrealm’s warriors against the evil emperor Shao Kahn. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. What do you think of this latest trailer? Be sure to keep an…
TOASTY! The man behind Mortal Kombat’s most iconic music tracks has announced his retirement from the team after more than three decades. Dan Forden served as one of the original four team members who created the original Mortal Kombat in 1992 alongside Ed Boon, John Tobias and John Vogel. Its unique digitised graphics and gruesome finishing moves aside, a huge part of Mortal Kombat’s appeal came from its catchy soundtrack and crispy sound effects. Game after game he continued to perfect his craft, and although others eventually joined the sound development team his influence remained front and centre. Wednesday was…

As largely expected, Digital Eclipse and Atari have used Evo 2025 to jointly announce the inclusion of Mortal Kombat Trilogy in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Released in 1996, Mortal Kombat Trilogy quickly became a fan favourite, bringing together an enormous roster of kombatants and arenas. Although it was also released for Nintendo 64, it was the PlayStation and PC ports that really resonated with fans as they contained crisper graphics and additional characters. In fact, it is the PlayStation port specifically that will be included with this kollection. While the digital version of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is expected in…

Early reports suggest that the trailer itself will debut at 9am PT. Following the recent unveiling of Mortal Kombat 1, many within the kommunity have begun advocating for the return of characters from the 3D era, some of whom haven’t been featured in a game since 2006. One such iconic kombatant is Shujinko, the main protagonist from Mortal Kombat: Deception’s Konquest mode. Voiced by former Midway and NetherRealm Studios staffer Max Crawford, his iconic dulcet tones invoke pleasant memories, and we couldn’t be happier to have him with us to celebrate our milestone 50th episode. In addition to Shujinko, Max also voiced Shang Tsung and the Dragon King himself, Onaga.

Seventeen years after her last appearance, Ashrah is finally back in a Mortal Kombat story. Was the wait worth it? The short answer to the question above is: not really. There are many arguments to be made regarding the return of the 3D-era characters, and believe me, I know most of those characters had a worse fate, lore-wise. But Ashrah is my favourite, the lady of my heart! So, I had to write this to analyse, for myself and others who might be interested, her participation in the story of Mortal Kombat 1. (From here on, there will be spoilers…
After a screenshot of the roster selection screen that showed Nitara’s facial redesign, NetherRealm Studios went ahead and officially revealed the Vampire Queen, played by none other than Megan Fox! Today, the 3D Era scores one more point! Nitara recently appeared in live-action and animated films, but this is her first playable appearance since Mortal Kombat Armageddon. As one of the most requested characters to come back, fans are celebrating her amazing redesign and gameplay. As expected, Nitara has some insane-looking aerial combos. She also boasts aerial cancels to extend her combos, deceive the opponent, and move around the battlefield…
It’s another glorious day for Mortal Kombat fans, with a number of popular additions unveiled at Gamescom 2023. Presenter Geoff Keighley was joined on-stage by Ed Boon on opening night to introduce a brand new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer, titled “Rulers of Outworld.” Described by Boon as their craziest trailer of all, it opens to a chariot being pulled along during a street celebration honouring the memory of Sindel’s late husband King Jerrod. Liu Kang narrates the clip, stating that although Earthrealm and Outworld are at peace, some Outworlders would prefer the realms to be at war. Cut to General…
Mortal Kombat 1 is closely approaching, and it’s looking to be the most mechanically sophisticated MK game to date. For countless players, this installment is going to be their diving point into competitive fighting games. This also means those players are going to navigate an ocean of terminology that saturates fighting game discourse. Gameplay vernacular can be fairly unintuitive. Some terms will be mundane words that have meanings exclusive to fighting games (e.g. special cancels, reversals). Others will be slang terms that have no direct connection to the meaning of the word (e.g. “meaties”). Others won’t even be in English…
Mortal Kombat 1’s beta is only a few days away from being unleashed, and we aren’t the only ones eager to get our hands on it. Set to run from Friday 18 August (8am PDT / 11am EDT) until Monday 21 August (8am PDT / 11am EDT), the beta will feature six playable kombatants (Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Kitana, Johnny Cage and Li Mei) and four Kameo fighters (Kano, Sonya, Jax and Frost). Johnny Cage’s Mansion and the Fengjian Teahouse will be the two arenas in which players can do battle. Unfortunately the beta is limited to PlayStation 5 and…
Brazilian gaming retailer Cadê Meu Jogo has leaked what is believed to be the final box art for Mortal Kombat 1 ahead of its release next month. While the artwork has since been removed from all product listings, it is plastered all over social media and reveals a yet-to-be-announced single player mode called “Invasions” (if Google Translate is to be believed). Those looking for a separate single-player experience will no doubt be among the first to delve into the new mode, which seemingly allows players to traverse multiple realms and face off against seasonal threats. A single screenshot accompanies the…
Ashrah is one of my favourite characters ever, and if written right, she could be one of the best Mortal Kombat characters ever. A while ago, I wrote a review of Ashrah’s story explaining why it disappointed me and giving suggestions on how it could have been better. Today, I want to explore this topic in more depth. Apart from being a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise, I am also a professional writer, and Ashrah was one of the characters who helped me hone my craft through fan fiction. I have written (so far) a total of three multi-chapter…
